About Garth
Garth Everett was born and raised in Montoursville, Pennsylvania, attended Montoursville public schools and graduated in 1972.
Garth completed AFROTC, graduated from Penn State, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and married his high school sweetheart, Sue, in November 1976.
Subsequently he served on active duty for 20½ years and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1997. He spent most of his time in the Air Force as a navigator on KC-135 air refueling aircraft and in related air operations positions along with other assignments to headquarters and command jobs.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Garth attended and graduated from the Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law in 2000.
After law school, Garth and his family moved back home to Lycoming County where he took up the practice of law specializing in municipal and civil law. While practicing law, he served as the solicitor for many townships, boroughs, school districts, and municipal authorities in the area.
In 2006 he ran for and was elected to the House of Representatives for the 84th House District in Lycoming County. He is currently serving his sixth term.
In the current session, Garth continues to serve on the Game and Fisheries Committee and is serving his first session as State Government Committee chairman. Garth’s current legislative efforts include bills to require ballot referendums for school building projects, improve water quality in Pennsylvania, improve storm water management, and help crime victims, among other issues.
Garth is a member the Chesapeake Bay Commission and currently serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania Delegation and the overall tristate commission. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania College of Technology and Williamsport Regional Airport.
Married to the former Susan Shultz of Montoursville, Sue and Garth have two grown daughters, Megan and Cori and two grandchildren, Riley and Nolan.
In his spare time, Garth enjoys running and wide variety of outdoor sports. He is a member of the NRA, VFW, American Legion, Oregon East Running Club and a number of local conservation and stream preservation organizations. Sue and Garth are members of Muncy’s First United Methodist Church and reside in Muncy.
